Brief

A village library with a reading room, a children’s room and a hall for meetings and classes, run partly by volunteers.

Site

A lot behind the harbor, enclosed by old basalt walls, in a place known for strong winter winds.

Approach

The library sits low behind the existing basalt walls, which we keep and repair. One timber roof covers all three rooms and drops toward the wind. Reading tables face a garden of native plants inside the walls. The hall opens onto the village lane for events.

Outcome

In design. Construction expected to start in 2026.
